The coming of a new season brings with it renewed energy and vision for what pleasures and surprises are waiting to be discovered. In this season of summer, our thoughts turn to a more leisurely pace, more time with family and friends, and even the change in menus from soups, and stews to grilling fish and eating more fresh vegetables and fruit.
Celebrate Summer
What better way to celebrate summer than to refocus on God and His goodness? We can take a cue from the season’s bounty, with its colorful and luscious fruits, fresh vegetables, and the “fun food” of barbecues and picnics. Let’s respond to an invitation from King David’s Psalm 34 to experience God and his goodness more fully:
“O, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the woman (man) who takes refuge in Him!” Psalms 34:8 NKJV
You’re Invited!
We invite you to join us in our newest study Taste & See as we discover what it means to “taste and see that the Lord is good”. This study will be focused on God and His goodness by looking at passages that use food images in Scripture to speak to us about our relationship with Him.
Hunger Satisfied
We will be looking at the Psalms, which is a book full of songs and praises from David to God. David known as a man after God’s heart was also a man who lived wholeheartedly in every part of his life. David must have loved food and banquets because he frequently describes food in all its beauty, succulence, and ability to satisfy hunger. David would not have been one to go on a diet as we know them.
Respond to the Invitation
Jesus used images of food to invite people to step beyond the religious laws and rules they clung to and to experience a relationship with God by placing their faith and trust in Him! Jesus invited people to hear stories about farmers and growing conditions and crops to illustrate spiritual truths.
- Jesus said, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” John 6:35 NKJV
- Jesus tells the woman at the well “if you knew the gift of God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.” John 4:10 NLT
We pray that this devotional study will give your eyes and hearts something to “feast on” by looking at Scriptures that use beautiful images of food as a doorway into an intimate relationship with God, one that can be “tasted” by our souls and spirits.
